Description: Description of complaint: noise complaint concerning st. marks evangelist catholic church, cross creek. although sec. 36-435. exemptions (5); allows for the "sounds associated with religious activities, including but not limited to bells and chimes, if not unreasonably loud to a reasonable person of ordinary sensibility. " st. marks installed electronic chimes that can be heard quite loudly over one mile away. a complaint to the church returned a response that the sound setting was only on level 2 of 10. the chimes disrupt my sleep and can be heard clearly and very loud from the outside of my home which is 3/4 of a mile away. i do not mind the occasional ringing of a church bell or chime; however, the playing of religious themed music to this level of loudness is not appropriate. this should be limited to saturday and sunday mass with controls over the sound level and length of time.
